Sci-fi movies

Postby jaket » Mon Aug 19, 2013 1:16 pm

This year has seen some big scifi movies coming out.
What was your favorite so far? What about the biggest disappointment?

Oblivion was definitely my favorite. Watched in twice in the theather :)
Pacific Rim was nice but not excellent. Elysium was good but the expectations were very high after District 9. I think the plot could have been a bit more extended.

Can't wait for Riddick!

Forgot "Snowpiercer". Looks very promising too.

Oblivion was fantastic, Pacific rim was funny but definitively rip off any 80s robot movie ever made biggest is( "Robot Wars" ). Man of steel was great too, and of course my favorite is Star Trek Into darkness.

*** SPOILER ***
The ending of Oblivion was a bit creepy.. one clone dies, another one comes to take his place. And entering the space station was just too easy. Wasn't that thing supposed to be super smart?
*** SPOILER ***

Other than that, the movie was nice. Great visuals and soundtrack.
Pacific Rim was ok, entertaining. Star Trek was awesome!

But the best for me until now is definitely Elysium. Loved it :) (I haven't watched District 9 yet. Maybe it didn't create such high expectations on me)

I would say that the ammount of scifi movies in 2013 is good. But I wouldn't say that any of them is going to be a classic.
I liked Pacific Rim a lot, but I wish the movie was bigger. Everything seems to happen too fast. They should have shown more missions with the Jaegers.

After Earth wasn't as bad as the critics say.
Waiting for Gravity. That one looks really promising.

Haven't watched After Earth, Man of Steel and Star Trek.
I've heard pretty bad things about After Earth, but I'm still curious to see it.
I'll post my comments about them soon 8-)

Watch Star Flare just now. Very good! Ops I meant Star Trek :)
I just wish they'd use more of the crew. Besides the main characters, the rest of the crew is just scenario. It would seem more real if they sent a squad instead of always sending the same guys from the bridge... alone.

One more to the list :)
"The Colony"

Without spoiling anything, it started really good. Interesting setting. But at the second part of the movie, it all goes downhill. A lot of clichés and irrational character behaviours all glued together.
Still nice to watch, though.
