Command and Conquer

Postby Timmah! » Sat Dec 10, 2011 2:37 pm

So, today, there is going to be unveiled a new game at the VGA event, surprisingly developed under Bioware label. It seems, its almost sure by now, that this game is going to be a new Command and Conquer title, most likely succesor to the CnC Generals. So, what do you think? I personally look forward to it, Generals, or more precisely Zero Hour was probably my fav game from the series, alongside original Red Alert. Was never a big fan of the Tiberium universe, as it was imho too sci-fi for its own good, really there a trillion of other sci-fi based RTS games with more compelling setting and more interesting units than any Tiberium game ever had.... StarCraft, Warhammer DoW, Earth 21*0 series, SupCom, etc., etc... Red Alert on other hand, the original one, was quite brilliant, with a gritty dark atmosphere of alternative WW2 and naval battles, but then some idiot at EA came with a horrible idea, to make its succesors more cheesy and "fun"....so you ended up figthing Schoolgirls, UFOs, Dolphins and Bears instead of obligatory tanks, planes and warships... which IMHO totally broke the series.

C&C Generals is awesome, if it is indeed Generals 2 hopefully they won't ruin it.

To be honest, RTS sci-fi on the ground, doesn't attract me too much, somehow I prefer to see units i'm familiar with, and that's the reason I also prefer Command and Conquer over the tiberium universe.
The last red alert to me was really disappointing, maybe because of the art direction mixed with all those weird units, it didn't grab me much.
But Bioware making a rts, well, it has to be good, I can't wait :)

Hmmm... let me think... Bioware... RTS... Something don't mix in my mind... Bioware is THE specialist for RPG / Action style games... The upcoming TOR (Star Wars the Old Republic) uses a lot of concepts Bioware always use and mixed with the key features of WOW...

But I don't see them making an RTS. If this is true, well, it will be more scenario driven but... I'm not sure... C&C made by Bioware...

But on the other hand, it is still possible, as Bioware is owned by EA, who owns the Command and Conquer licence... So, it's plausible, but I would be circonspect...

Well, it is known for about a year, that next CnC is in development, by the company named Victory Games, led by the creator of Heroes of Might and Magic, Jon Van Caneghem. But recently one of the Victory Games employees stated somewhere on the internet, as part of her CV and portfolio, that she works for Victory Games - Bioware. Then the trailer for the upcoming Bioware games showed up, and there is a indeed a part showing something, which really looks like RTS, specifically Generals. So the people put 2 and 2 together.

I feel the same, if the RTS is sci-fi, then it has to be space-based, like Gemini Wars. Ground based scifi RTS are too much cliche, they usually lack naval battles and every single one has futuristic tanks, mechs and VTOL hovercraft. Booooring.
Gimme abrams tanks, Comanches and F22 Raptors over this generic futuristic crap any day.

It's confirmed... Bioware is making the next C&C : Generals 2. It is developped under the Frostbyte 2 engine (the one for BF3). It won't go out before 2013 and will be PC exclusive.

That's all I have for now for this game.

You will find an exclusive video after the text here (in french I'm sorry)
